Meet our April Monthly Member Jadyn Kowahl!
Here is some information about their design experience and extracurriculars:
Over this past summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to come back for a second year as a teaching assistant for the Syracuse University Pre-College program! Participating in this program for the past two years has given me the ability to share my excitement and passion for Interior Design with high school students who are exploring their future college career paths. Working in the pre-college program has also helped solidify my love for teaching along with giving me valuable hands-on experience working and interacting with students. In addition to my work over the summer, I was able to test for and pass my LEED Green Associate accreditation and now I am working towards completing my WELL AP exam! During my recent time at SU, I have had the opportunity to take some truly interesting and inspiring studio classes such as DES 400- Adaptive Design and IND 300-Sustainable Materials. These studios have allowed me to pursue my interest in accessibility and inclusivity in design while also exploring unique and eco-conscious materiality practices. These two topics of design are currently the driving force behind my Capstone which is a focus on redesigning Long Term Acute Care Facilities (LTACH) to promote patient and healthcare worker comfort and wellness!
IIDA SU Campus Center will be hosting a volunteering event on Friday April 26 benefiting the Eastern Farmworkers Association! During this event, volunteers will work together and use design skills to make The Eastern Farmworkers Association’s office space efficient, aiding towards optimal operation of the organization by reorganizing each room. Light the Yard plans to follow this event with a Needs and Notes, providing EFWA with toiletries, food, and other donations to be distributed to their members. SIGN UP on our website!
Happy April IIDA SU Campus Center!
Only one month left of the Spring 2024 semester! Keep up the good work and continue designing!
Meet our March Monthly Member, Sebastian Melendez!
Here is some information about his design experience and extracurriculars:
This past year, I had the incredible opportunity to be an interior design intern at Dwyer Architectural in Downtown Syracuse. Working with them this past summer and winter introduced me to healthcare and education design. I was able to sit in on several project meetings to get a better sense of the collaboration process and gain an understanding of the importance of communication in our field. My work required me to measure out project spaces, Modeling spaces on Sketchup, and refine text, labels, and dimensions of projects on Vectorworks. Throughout my time, I was supported by mentors and professional architects who helped expand my knowledge of design and the programs they used. I also volunteered for Younglife, where I work with middle school and college students. While growing relationally in Younglife, I also grew professionally, with my experiences informing my design and intent. Pursuing a BFA in Interior Design and a future Master’s degree in K-12 School Counseling can better help me as a designer and my future work to better connect to those I hope to design for.
The SouthSide Communication Center Donation Drive was made to be a continuation of the Senior Class’s community service efforts from their previous semester’s Community Service Project. As Victoria’s Closet was a space within the project scope and a charitable organization, it seemed to be a great way to start our community service this semester. Through the Senior’s redesign of the center, it will provide long term aid, but donating now aids the center in a smaller, but immediate way. Swipe to see the final donation tally!
Thank you for everyone who showed up to our last of our three day event! The casual portfolio review and headshots could not have been possible without our Professional Volunteers and our photographer sponsor @kingkingarchitects !

Meet our Monthly Member for February, Sierra Krienke!
Here is some information about her experience in the Interior Design Industry:
“Throughout the past summer and winter, I’ve been privileged to undertake an internship at LaBella Associates, located in Downtown Rochester, New York. Here, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the world of Interior Design, guided by the expertise and support of my esteemed mentors and collaborative coworkers. This internship has been an exhilarating journey of personal and professional growth, providing me with a wealth of valuable skills and knowledge that I’m eager to continue expanding upon. My focus primarily revolved around engaging projects in the K-12 and Higher Education realms of the region. My involvement extended across numerous projects spanning different phases, where I actively collaborated in shaping interior spaces. My responsibilities also included selecting finishes and furniture, as well as crafting compelling presentation graphics to support our design vision, allowing me to make tangible contributions to the realization of innovative and impactful design solutions. Through hands-on involvement and immersive site visits, I’ve gained profound insights and practical experience, deepening my passion for design excellence.”

Are you a representative wanting to present to students about your company and products?
In 2023, we had 20 representatives come in to the Environmental and Interior Design studio to present about their new products and company values. With our Lunch & Learn Program, students and local representatives got to connect and share their experiences.
